As a practical teaching and learning tool for beginners of all ages, oriented toward a gradual integration of the harmonic language of jazz, the present volume includes a wide variety of melodies and chord changes, providing students and teachers with opportunities to approach harmony through experimentation. Two types of exercises are to be found: first, standard harmonization exercises in which the chord sequence best fitting the given melody is to be discovered, or created, second, exercises to be completed, giving the student the freedom to devise a melody and its chord changes within set stylistic and formal boundaries.
